Child development at one year: what parents need to know 🙌🏼

At one year old, children have undergone significant changes in their development. Here are some things that parents should know about their child's development at this age:

📍Motor skills: By one year old, most children can sit up without support, crawl or scoot around on their bellies, and pull themselves up to stand using furniture or other supports. They may also start taking their first steps.

📍Language development: Children at one year old may start to say their first words, such as "mama" or "dada," and understand simple commands, like "come here." They also begin to babble and make various sounds to communicate.

📍Cognitive development: At this age, children are curious and interested in exploring their environment. They may try to fit objects into containers, stack blocks, and show interest in cause-and-effect relationships.

📍Social development: One-year-olds are developing their social skills and becoming more interactive with others. They may begin to show affection towards familiar people, recognize familiar faces, and understand social cues, such as waving goodbye.

📍Emotional development: Children at this age may experience separation anxiety when apart from their caregivers. They also may exhibit a range of emotions, such as joy, frustration, and anger.

As a parent, it's important to provide a safe and nurturing environment that supports your child's development. You can encourage their development by providing opportunities for exploration and play, reading to them, and responding to their needs and cues with warmth and sensitivity. Regular check-ups with a pediatrician are also important to ensure your child's physical and developmental health.
