Easter in Ukraine 🐰

In Ukraine, Easter is celebrated as one of the most important holidays of the year, with a blend of Christian traditions. Here are some of the common ways Easter is celebrated in Ukraine:

📍Pysanky - Pysanky are decorated Easter eggs. In Ukraine, the tradition of making pysanky dates back to ancient times. The eggs are decorated with traditional Ukrainian designs and symbols, and the colors used are believed to bring different meanings.

📍Easter basket - On Easter Sunday, people bring a basket filled with traditional food items like eggs, bread, meat to the church to be blessed by the priest.

📍Easter church service - Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic churches hold special Easter services that are attended by many people. The service typically includes hymns, readings, and the blessing of the Easter baskets.

📍Easter meal - After the church service, families gather for a festive Easter meal. The meal usually includes traditional Ukrainian dishes like paska (sweet bread), sausage and babka (cake).

📍Easter games - Children in Ukraine play Easter games like egg rolling and egg tapping. In egg rolling, children roll their pysanky down a hill to see whose egg can roll the farthest without breaking. In egg tapping, children tap their eggs against each other, and the last egg that remains unbroken is the winner.

📍Easter traditions - In some regions of Ukraine, there are also unique Easter traditions. For example, in western Ukraine, people pour water on each other on Easter Monday as a symbol of cleansing and purification.

Overall, Easter in Ukraine is a time of celebration and joy, with many traditions that are deeply rooted in the country's culture and history.
