Every third child between the ages of five and fourteen works. More than two and a half million children in Nepal are forced to work simply because otherwise the family may not survive.
Half of the children in Nepal do not reach the fifth grade. Out of every four girls, only one ever went to school. Two thirds of the population have no idea about the rules and means of sanitation.
The educational system in Nepal is unique in its own way. We can say that in Nepal there are no children at all, there are small adults. People are just trying to survive every day. The typical Nepalese family has an average of four or five children. One of the poorest countries in the world simply does not have the money to properly care for each of these children.
There is practically no social system. Many children do not go to school because their families do not have the means to purchase textbooks, notebooks, etc., or because the child does not have time for school - he must work and earn money. The situation is aggravated by caste and gender discrimination.
Girls from low-income families experience the greatest difficulties in obtaining at least a primary education. Only one in three women in Nepal can read and write. In poor families, parents are very interested in getting their daughters married as soon as possible.
About half of the girls by the age of fifteen are not only married, but also have children. For them, getting a full-fledged secondary education, especially a specialty, is no longer possible, and it doesn’t matter.
For the education of one child, the state spends only 21 euros a year, and most of this tiny amount goes to teachers' salaries. As for the purchase of educational materials, there is not enough money for this at all. Not all Nepalese schools have chalk, pencils, blackboards, textbooks.
It is also a big problem that parents have to participate in financing the education of their children. For example, school uniforms, which are mandatory in Nepal, are paid for by parents. In private schools, the educational program is of a much higher standard, but education in them is even more expensive.
